The Olympus E-PL2 Digital SLR Camera is rated one of 2012′s best entry-level cameras.  It boasts the same size sensor as its predecessors; however, the body is much smaller, making it easier to carry and handle.  Enhanced Live Guide controls allow you to see the way a picture will look before you actually press the shutter button. All LCDs with Live View can preview the image for you. Live view has enabled Olympus to omit the reflex mirror and optical viewfinder arrangement of a traditional SLR and produce significantly smaller cameras and lenses. Panasonic has created cameras with this same lens set-up, and Canon and Nikon are expected to follow. Canon Rebel T1i Digital SLR: One of the Best DSLR Cameras for Beginners

The Canon EOS Rebel T1i was voted one of 2012’s best DSLR cameras for beginners.  The outward appearance of the T1i is very similar to the XSi, with a few minor changes such as the addition of holes for a microphone on the front and a speaker on the back.  One of the main distinguishing features is the silver Mode dial. The weight is good, not much heavier than the XSi’s 25.4 ounces (720.3g) with lens, battery, and card.  It’s comfortable and feels solid.

Canon Rebel XS has powerful features but it is very easy to understand and use. It was voted one of 2012’s best dslr cameras for beginners.  The picture quality is second to none.  It has easy to use controls, Canon’s DIGIC III processor, and a very compact design.  The camera comes with a single-lens kit including the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens.  It weighs 1lb 1.6 oz.
